Quick Tip: Whiteboard Wonder

February 3, 2015

Searching for a large dry erase board for your home office or classroom can be a chore, as well as VERY expensive. There IS a cost-effective solution for your space. Here's how we solved our dilemma of finding the perfect dry erase board.

When we built the building we use as a homeschool classroom, we needed a large writing surface for the wall. After pricing dry erase boards at a teacher supply store, which was a real eye opener, we opted to take our search to the home improvement store. Spending only 5% of the cost of a "real" board, we purchased a 4-foot by 8-foot white gloss hardboard wall panel. Typically used in a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room, this alternative met our needs and looks great in our classroom.

Our whiteboard was finished with simple 1-inch by 4-inch pine trim painted black. We also added a marker tray on the top and bottom of the board, providing plenty of space for every color of the rainbow. Dry erase cleaner works well to remove marker residue.

If you have been looking for a whiteboard for your space, try this solution. You'll be glad you saved the money.
