Make It If You Can't Find It

May 11, 2013

A few months ago, my husband and I took on the task of decorating our side porch. We looked for the "table of our dreams", but came up short. We couldn't imagine spending $300, $400, or more for a table that would only be "good enough". Ultimately, we decided to make our own table instead.

If you find yourself in a situation like ours, in which you are looking for the perfect table, I encourage you to make a table. It is usually a lot cheaper than buying, and you get the look you want. The table we made cost about $185 for the wood, hardware, and screws, and has a finish value of around $500-$600. Since we used pressure-treated wood, we have to allow the wood to dry before we can paint it. So, for now, it will stay unfinished.

Here is a short video demonstrating the functionality of our table. We chose this design because it worked with the placement of two existing benches we brought to the porch from a different location on our property. In addition, since we placed the benches in the corner, a triangle shape seemed to be more inviting to the space.

While we do not have the exact plans available currently, I'd be happy to email you more detailed instructions. Please leave a comment below with your email address. You don't need extensive construction skills to build your own table. Your table may be quite different from what we make, but you CAN do it yourself!
