Money Monday: Off-Season Trips

January 21, 2013

There is one great way to curb the "after-Christmas blues". Take off on a weekend trip during the off-season. You can get great deals saving 30% to 50% on accommodations, plus save on meals too! Here's an example of a trip we took.

Almost every year, we take a trip in January to the Smoky Mountains. In fact, we just came back from there today. We got in on a great deal with the cabin company Timber Tops. Buying two nights, we got two nights free. We saved about $400 on a three bedroom, two bath cabin.

Staying in a cabin instead of a hotel saves you additional money, too, because you can buy groceries to cook meals yourself rather than dining out every meal. We spent around $80 total on groceries for our 5-day, 4-night trip. While we did go out for three meals, we saved nearly $240 cooking the rest of our meals in the cabin.

What a great trip we had, and you can have a great trip too! Look online for this kind of deal during the off-season, and you can more easily afford a weekend getaway. If you use Timber Tops for your next trip to the Smoky Mountains, please let them know I sent you!

Thanks for following Practips!
