Home Remedy for the Mouth

November 2, 2012

Do you need a home remedy for the mouth? No, I'm not talking about what you say or what you eat. Those are stories for another day...lol! If you get mouth ulcers, then this solution is for you!
A great home remedy is Alum. You can find it in the spice aisle at the grocery store. I received the instructions from my friend, Kelli about how to use it:
Use a cotton swab and put a little on each ulcer. Let it stay on there for about 30 seconds and rinse. It tastes nasty, but numbs the ulcer and starts the healing process. Repeat for a few days.
If you get frequent mouth ulcers, consider these factors: stress, hormonal changes, or eating certain foods. Medication can also be a trigger. Eliminate or reduce the causes, if possible. Most of us want less stress, that's for sure.

I have seen a variety of solutions used to treat mouth ulcers. Anything from oil of oregano, to tea tree oil, to alcohol, to a buttermilk/salt mixture. All of these options are more costly, and there is no proof that any of them work. For only a couple dollars, alum is an inexpensive, simple way to relieve the pain associate with mouth ulcers and to get them healed quickly!

Thanks for following Practips!
